ABSTRACT

With the development of the knee-preservation concept and surgical techniques, lateral unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) has become an effective method for the lateral compartment osteoarthritis of the knee. The incidence of knee osteoarthritis is low in the lateral compartment, which is different from the medial compartment in anatomical and kinematic characteristics. These two factors increase the challenge of lateral UKA, so the clinical efficacy of lateral UKA has been controversial. With the improvement and renewal of treatment concepts, surgical techniques and prosthesis design, the clinical effect of lateral UKA and the survival rate of the prosthesis have been continuously optimized. This article aims to summarize the characteristics of lateral compartment knee osteoarthritis, clinical efficacy, prosthesis selection, reasons for revision, future application and prospects, combined with relevant literature in recent years, to review the current progress of lateral UKA.

ABSTRACT

Bone defects caused by trauma, infection, tumor and other factors is a thorny problem in orthopedic clinic, and promoting bone repair and regeneration is the key and difficult point of treatment. In addition to autologous bone grafting, artificial bone materials are often used for large bone defects. β-tricalcium phosphate has good biocompatibility, bone conduction and bone induction properties, and has been studied deeply because of its excellent drug delivery performance and has shown broad application prospects. In this paper, the author will summarize the research progress of β-tricalcium phosphate composites loaded with different drugs in the treatment of bone defects caused by trauma, infection and tumor.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES@#Primary carnitine deficiency (PCD) is a rare fatty acid metabolism disorder that can cause neonatal death. This study aims to analyze carnitine levels and detect SLC22A5 gene in newborns with carnitine deficiency, to provide a basis for early diagnosis of PCD, and to explore the relationship between carnitine in blood and SLC22A5 genotype.@*METHODS@#A total of 40 neonates with low free carnitine (C0G (p.Y251C), c.495 C>A (p.R165E), and c.1298T>C (p.M433T). We found 14 PCD patients including 2 homozygous mutations and 12 heterozygous mutations, 14 with 1 mutation, and 12 with no mutation among 40 children. The C0 concentration of children with SLC22A5 gene homozygous or complex heterozygous mutations was (4.95±1.62) μmol/L in the initial screening, and (3.90±1.33) μmol/L in the second screening. The C0 concentration of children with no mutation was (7.04±2.05) μmol/L in the initial screening, and (8.02±2.87) μmol/L in the second screening. There were significant differences between children with homozygous or compound heterozygous mutations and with no mutation in C0 concentration of the initial and the second screening (both @*CONCLUSIONS@#There are 5 new mutations which enriched the mutation spectrum of SLC22A5 gene. C0<5 μmol/L is highly correlated with SLC22A5 gene homozygous or compound heterozygous mutations. Children with truncated mutation may have lower C0 concentration than that with untruncated mutation in the initial screening.

ABSTRACT

Research-oriented study is a comprehensive learning method focusing on the experimental process deriving from a main issue.Given our clinical teaching experience in years,we incorporated the research-oriented studies into the undergraduate Clinical Medicine course for grade 2009,integrating the trait of the clinical skills education and our local professional training objectives. In the studies, students selected their own topic, designed and did their experiments, searched for the information, processed and analyzed the experiment result and finally completed the thesis.Practice showed that after the strict implementation of research learning plan, students' learning interest, innovative thinking, practical skills, research ability and cooperation spirit all significantly enhanced.

ABSTRACT

Objective To establish and evaluate a diagnostic technique based on the AllGlo~(TM) probe for the invasive aspergillosis. Methods With the self-designed AllGlo~(TM) probes and primers and the standards, two standard curves of the real-time PCR based on AllGlo~(TM) probes were established respectively for A. flaws and A. fumigatus, then its specificity, sensitivity and reproducibility were evaluated respectively. Results The findings indicated that the standard curve of A. flavus was Y = - 3. 003X + 36. 825, and A. fumigatus' was Y = - 3. 052X + 38.016, and their interassay coefficient of variation respectively were 15.60% and 12. 94% , suggesting a good reproducibility. The lowest spore concentration they could be detected was 10 CFU/ml, which equated to 100-1000 copies of internal transcribed spacer (ITS)2 genes, suggesting a good sensibility. They didn't have cross-positive reaction with other fungus, human genome and bacteria, which indicated a good specificity. Conclusion The diagnostic technique based on the AllGlo?probe for the invasive aspergillosis possessed a good sensitivity, good specificity and deadly accuracy.
